Anton reminds me of myself at his age – eager to learn more about birds and wildlife, always with a camera ready, and putting real images to the birds known only from the book.
On the first trip we visited the cliffs of Carrapateira where we found Zitting Cisticolas, Corn Buntings, Black Redstarts and great views of Northern Gannets in the rough seas. In Sagres, Baleeira harbor was a good place for Anton to photograph Cormorants and discover Wimbrels and Turnstones.
On this second trip we explored the hills East of Aljezur for some elusive woodpeckers and other forest birds, and found a displaying male Little Bustard in the plains of Rogil! In the dramatic cliffs of Arrifana, Anton finally saw one of his favorite birds – the underestimated Linnet (one of my favorites as well).
Anton is the proof that passion for the wild is something you can cherish and not loose as you grow older. He will have another full day when he gets home, where him and his grandfather – who started him on this quest – sit down to analyze the day list I will send them.
You have a long life of discovering new birds ahead of you Anton, enjoy the ride!
